The University of Technology Jamaica, Jamaica (UTech Jamaica) dates its beginning from 1958 where it was formally accorded university status on September 1, 1995. The history of the institution is ultimately connected with the social and economic development of Jamaica. The university’s mandate is reflected in its mission to stimulate positive change in Caribbean society through the provision of higher education. The Faculty of Engineering and Computing through its School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) and the School of Engineering has been the premier tertiary level provider of education in engineering and computing in Jamaica for over fifty years,
producing competent and knowledgeable graduates who are making a valuable contribution to development in Jamaica, the Caribbean region and beyond. The School of Computing and Information Technology has been deliberate in its efforts to offer courses of study that are relevant to the industry and to employers. In keeping with this thrust, UTech, Jamaica began offering the Bachelor of Science degree in Animation Production and Development (BSc. APD) in August 2014. The course of study is contributing to capacity building and the provision of needed trained professions in the digital and creative industries.
