Miriam Hinds Smith
Miriam Hinds Smith is Dean of the School of Visual Arts at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts where she provides academic leadership and guidance across the disciplines
offered. Hinds Smith holds a Master’s degree (with Hons.) in Fashion and Design from the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, UK, and studied at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Alsace, France. Hinds Smith is also a honours graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and is a trained art educator. As a practicing artist, Hinds Smith’s perspective is to see a concerted engagement of direct investment through stakeholder partnerships for visual arts education across groups, and communities, to
facilitate the development of non-traditional career pathways in the creative sector. This as Hinds Smith believes, is necessary to promote diverse, socially and culturally-responsive critical
thinkers, who will create new solutions through an interdisciplinary framework of art making, forging new career pathways and solutions within the creative sector, that are transferable and fits within the evolving global creative space.
