GENERAL RULES

Who can enter: The competition is open to all storytellers, artists, illustrators, animators, students, and professionals. The competition is open to individuals, teams or organizations.

Exclusions: 

  • Winning entries of previous KingstOOn Competitions (2013 and 2016) are not eligible for entry into the same category with which the award was received.
  • Entries completed more than twenty four (24) months prior to the closing date of submissions are not eligible. The closing date of submissions is August 31, 2018.
  • Members of the KingstOOn planning team and their immediate families, persons connected to the competitions and their immediate families, i.e. prize sponsors, are not eligible to enter the competition.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that do not follow the rules.

The Work Must Be Original: Your entries must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material. (If your entry infringes upon another’s copyright it will be disqualified.) Upon submitting your entry to this competition, you are solely responsible for any infringement on copyrighted materials. We reserve the right to request proof that your submissions are original artwork created solely by you. Non-compliance to this rule will be a disqualification of your entry.

Copyright: The artist retains all copyrights to their artwork without exception.

Non-exclusive Permissions: By entering this competition, you are granting The Office Of The Prime Minister, a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce your entry on kingstoonfest.com, KingstOOn newsletters, and on KingstOOn social media pages (Facebook@kingstoonfest, Twitter@kingstoonfest and Instagram@kingstOOnfest). Entries will not be used for any other purpose than that which is stated here.

Content:

  • All entries must contain animated content. Entries that contain live action must include at least 75% animated content to be eligible.
  • Entries must NOT contain expletive language, nudity, discriminate against race, gender, religion or any ethnic group.

Valid passport and visas will be required if the competition prize includes travel outside the entrant’s country of residence. KingstOOn will not cover any visa or passport related costs.

Language: All entries must be in English, or subtitled in English.

ENTRY PROCESS

Competitions are open during the period April 23 – August 31, 2018. Apply by midnight Eastern Standard Time, August 31, 2018. No entries will be accepted past the posted deadline.

Entry is completely FREE!

On the form you will be required to upload videos or documents.

File requirements:

  • Videos must be either .mov, .mp4 or .avi.
  • Documents must be in PDF

MULTIPLE ENTRY

Entrants are allowed a maximum of one (1) submission per category. Those who register more than once per category will be disqualified.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Apply by midnight Eastern Standard Time, August 31, 2018. No entries will be accepted past the posted deadline.

KINGSTOON EMERGING ANIMATED CONTENT COMPETITION (KEACC)

The KingstOOn Emerging Animation Content Competition is focused on giving visibility to new talent from the Caribbean. Entrants must be a citizen of a Caribbean country (all Caribbean countries are eligible). In addition to the general rules, the following rules specific to each category apply.

STORYBOARD 

A Storyboard is a sequence of drawings, typically with some directions and dialogue, representing the shots planned for a film or television production.

  • Entries must be in PDF format.
  • The file size must not exceed 64 MB.
  • Entries must also include the script/concept/premise along with the storyboard in the same file.
  • Entry must follow current standards and best practices used in the industry.

CHARACTER DESIGN

This entry must be in the form of a model sheet. In animation, the model sheet, also known as a character board, character sheet, character study or simply a study, is a document used to help standardize the appearance, poses, and gestures of an animated character.

  • Entries must be in PDF format.
  • The file size must not exceed 64 MB.
  • Submissions must include a full character turnaround i.e. must show at least three (3 including front, back and right side of the character.
  • Entries must include facial expressions.
  • Entries must include a written profile of the character.

SHORT FILM

short film is any motion picture not long enough to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as “an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits”.

  • Entries must not exceed 10 minutes.
  • The file size must not exceed 500 MB.
  • File format must be either .mov, .mp4 or .avi.

 CONCEPT

The Concept category is for productions that are in the early developmental stages. Finalists of this competition are automatically entered into the pitch development boot camp and pitch competition. This entry must be in the form of a Pitch Bible. This is a tool which helps to convey your concept and is used for presentation purposes, and is a leave-behind to trigger the decision maker’s memory.

  • Entries must be in PDF format.
  • The file size must not exceed 64 MB.
  • Entries must include (but not limited to) character descriptions, story logline, synopsis, concept art and target audience.

PITCH DEVELOPMENT BOOT CAMP AND COMPETITION

The Pitch Competition is for animated productions at the conceptual stage. Enter this competition to access the opportunity to refine your pitching skills and concept under the guidance of world class experts in the Pitch Development Boot Camp. Then, pitch your idea in front of an audience in the Pitch Competition where you will be assessed by international judges. Winners of this category will have an opportunity get seed funding to further develop their pitch and attend an international trade show to pitch to potential investors.To compete, enter the KingstOOn Emerging Animated Content Competition (KEACC) Concept category.

  • Entries must be submitted in the KEACC Concept Category to be eligible.
  • A maximum of four (4) team members for each entry selected for the finals are eligible.
  • Each team member must be a citizen of a Caribbean country.
  • Finalists will be required to participate in a Pitch Development Boot Camp prior to the KingstOOn Pitch Competition.
  • Finalists will be required to be present to Judges and an audience at KingstOOn Pitch Competition.
  • Finalists will receive additional instructions upon their selection. All instructions received must be kept confidential.

KINGSTOON INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FILM COMPETITION (KIAFC)

The KingstOOn International Animated Film Competition is open to local and international participants. There are no limitations to geographical location. In addition to the general rules, the following rules specific to each category apply:

SPECIAL EFFECTS

Special effects (often abbreviated as SFX, SPFX, or FX) are illusions or visual tricks used in film, television, theater, video game and simulator industries to simulate the imagined events in a story or virtual world.

  • The file size must not exceed 500 MB.
  • File format must be either .mov, .mp4 or .avi.

STUDENT FILM

The award will give early bloomers with extraordinary talent enrolled in an academic institution an opportunity to shine among the professionals.  Do not take this category lightly, as the international standards are high.

  • Entries must not exceed five (5) minutes.
  • The file size must not exceed 500 MB.
  • File format must be either .mov, .mp4 or .avi.
  • Finalists will be required to show proof of student status.

FEATURE FILM

feature film is a film (also called a motion picture or movie) with a running time long enough to be considered the principal or sole film to fill a program. The notion of how long this should be has varied according to time and place. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute, a feature film runs for at least 40 minutes, while the Screen Actors Guild holds that it is 80 minutes or longer.

  • Entries must be a minimum of 40 minutes
  • The file size must not exceed 500 MB.
  • File format must be either .mov, .mp4 or .avi.
